tttt (tic-tac-toc-toe) is a variation of the unwinnable game ttt (tic-tac-toe). In tttt, the player and the computer take turns making a mark (X or O) on a 4-by-4 square field. The first player to get four of their marks in a row, vertically, horizontally, or diagonally, wins. In addition to the extra squares, tttt differs from ttt in that the edges wrap around like a sphere (_not_ a torus!). This adds a bit of spice by opening up more possible diagonals... and who doesn't like diagonals in their game? Unfortunately, the extra squares and the wrap-around diaganols add little to the overall gameplay. After a few games, the player is left with the feeling that tttt is just as unwinnable as ttt. There is the ``fun'' option of letting the computer play itself. But after a few iterations of that, the player is left _convinced_ that the game is unwinnable. There is the option for two people to play against each other. But how fun can that be? Instead a game of wit and intimidation, it quickly becomes one of endurance: whoever makes the first mistake loses. Overall, 1.5 out of 5 hugs and kisses for being a basically unwinnable game. 2 out of 5 hugs and kisses for kids 10 or under. |
